Quick Summary: A powerful, game-changing book filled with practical exercises to help you determine your highest values. Until you determine your values, the inspired and fulfilling life you’ve dreamed of will allude you.
A Few More Words: Author Dr John Demartini says the most important step you can take to create and live the inspired and fulfilling life you’ve dreamed of – to fulfill your destiny – is to determine your highest values.
Why determine your highest values?
You’ll be able to build a career where every day can feel like a vacation because you love the work you do. You’ll be able to activate your own unique genius, grow your financial freedom, expand your influence, and unleash your vitality.
And what if you don’t determine your highest values?
You’re likely to attempt to live the life that someone else wants you to live. Trying to follow someone else’s values or priorities. Those of a parent, a teacher, boss or spouse. That is a recipe for frustration. The job that never quite satisfies you. The relationship that has somehow gone stale. And the vague sense that you’re living a quiet life of desperation.
Why I Love this Book: Dr Demartini clearly explains what he means by values, next illustrates their importance, and then guides the reader through exercises and consistent, helpful explanations of important themes. By chapter 2 (my favorite chapter), I’ve connected dots in my life that I once thought unrelated.
I determined my values and made career and social choices in alignment with who I am. Paraphrasing the Van Morrison lyric:
All the parts of the puzzle start to look like they fit.
And that feeling is deliciously energizing!
Final Questions: Does your job feel like work? Are you inspired to get up every day and do the things you love?
Dr. Demartini’s highest values are to research, write, travel and teach, and from his interviews and books, I believe him when he says his work:
Seems like the best vacation in the world, doing exactly what I’d love to be doing. When you’re doing something you love, you just can’t wait to get out there and do it as the work is so rewarding.
I highly-recommend the Values Factor, and will write more on the intersection of the teachings of Dr Demartini and Esther Hicks in the near future.
